What to put on a character card

A good card fits on one page and answers three questions at a glance: who is this, what do they look like, and what do they want? Keep each field short. One line of appearance that players can picture (“silver braid, ink-stained fingers”), two personality traits that you can act out, and one goal or secret that can drive a scene. The backstory box is for your own notes: where they come from, what went wrong, who they owe.

Start from a name you like. Star names in any generator, then pick them here from Use a saved name, or tap the card icon next to a generated name to open this page with the name and race filled in.

Printing tips

  • One card per page. Print card prints only the card, without the website around it.
  • Save as PDF in the print dialog to share a card with your group or keep a backup.
  • Index-card size: set the print scale to about 60% and cut along the border for a card that fits a 4×6 inch index box.
  • Ink-friendly: the printed card is black text on white with a thin colored border.

Character card FAQ

Is the character card maker free?

Yes. Fill in as much or as little as you like, save as many cards as you want and print them. No account is needed.

Where are my character cards saved?

In your browser’s local storage on this device only. We never see them. To move a card to another device, print it to PDF.

Can I use it for NPCs?

Yes, it works well for non-player characters. Use the Personality and Goal fields for a voice, a quirk and what they want, and print a stack for your next session.
